How Image Compression Works
- PNG color quantization: the image's colors are reduced to 256 or fewer (median-cut algorithm) and stored as palette indexes. For UI screenshots and illustrations the result is visually identical at 50–80% smaller — the same core idea TinyPNG uses.
- JPG takes another route: DCT transform plus quantization, discarding high-frequency detail the eye is least sensitive to. Lower quality settings discard more; photographic content is usually indistinguishable between quality 60 and 80.
- WebP is the modern option: 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, with PNG-style transparency support. It's the first choice when you need the smallest possible files.

Does compression change my image dimensions?
No. Original dimensions and format are preserved: PNG uses quantization (visually lossless) and JPG/WebP uses quality adjustment. To resize, use the scale option in advanced settings.
Can you compress PNG files?
Yes. PNG compression uses color quantization — visually near-lossless, typically 50–80% smaller, comparable to TinyPNG. For even smaller files, convert to WebP in advanced settings.
Can I compress multiple images at once?

Will the image orientation change?
